The 10 Best and Worst Choreographed Floor Routines

The Floor Exercise is one of our favorite events to watch because it gives the gymnast a chance to show their personality and most importantly, their originality. The problem with MANY of today's gymnasts (as you all well know!) is the lack of artistry. It's rare to find a gymnast who can actually sell her performance to the crowd and dance to the music rather than pose. We applaud the gymnasts in our "Best Choreography" section for creating a captivating performance with intriguing music and movements that actually draw the crowd in. Also, please remember that these are only our opinions and it's fine if you disagree.

Worst:

1. Ashley Stott

Really the only thing that bothers me about this routine is how sloppy Ashley preforms it. I feel like she was just trying to hurry through the dance and was not really enjoying herself.

2. Morgan Smith

Morgan is a great gymnast, but this choreography just doesn't do it for me. There are a couple places in this routine where I wonder what was going through the choreographers head..

3. Gael Mys

I've heard of many people who actually like this routine. It is different and Gael really seems to get into the choreography. But aside from that, I think some of the dance moves are a little to silly to be using in your floor routine at the Olympic games.

4. Alena Kravchenko

I feel like she could do so much more with this music! She dose a lot of posing and standing around. The music has a pretty fast tempo and I feel like she's moving like a slug!

5. Jo Hyunjoo

I admit, I think she's adorable. But for being a 16 year old competing at the Olympic Games I feel like this routine is a bit immature. I would like it better if it belonged to a 10 year old.

6. Beth Tweedle

Now I'm sure your all already familiar with this routine. I thought is was awkward from the moment I first saw it. I love Beth and I seriously hope she gets a better routine for the Olympics this summer. She deserves something better.

7. Tess Moonen

I don't know what to think of this routine. I like that's it' diffrent then what we typically see, but after several times of watching the video over; I've come to the conclusion that some of her dance is just awkward. I felt like she was trying to combine interpretive dance into a gymnastics routine. It just didn't work for me. (P.S she reminds me of Bross!)

8. Georgia Wheeler

Her movements are very robotic and stiff. All Georgia needs to do is loosen up and have a little fun while she's performing!

9. Park Eun Kyung

She looked incredibly bored throughout this whole routine! All her movements were very sluggish and dull. This routine has no emotion what so ever.

10. Emilia Eberle

And of course we can't forget about the Romanians! I think this one speaks for itself!

 Best:

1. Sabrina Vega

We cannot get enough of this routine! The music is so dramatic and Sabrina's movements are very sharp and clean! The choreography is absolutely beautiful and fits perfectly with the music!

2. Ksenia Afanasyeva

I think Beautiful is an understatement. She moves so effortlessly and the choreography is just..perfection. This routine is breathtaking!

3. Sui Lu

I love the music! Sui somehow manages to get in all these difficult tumbling passes and turns and still look like a ballerina! I think this routine really matched her personality.

4. Jordyn Wieber

The music is so dramatic and matches Jordyn's style well. Her routine is very energetic and is something the crowd can get into and clap along with. The dance is spot on with the music and you can see in Jordyn's face how much she enjoys herself when she's preforming this!

5. Peng Peng Lee

Very interesting choreography from Peng Peng! She is so unique and enjoyable to watch!

6. Victoria Moors

Even though this music is WAY overused I think the choreography is wonderful and I love the expressions in Victoria's face! She is such a performer! I liked this routine right from the start!

7. Aisha Gerber

I absolutely LOVE her music! This routine is so interesting and Aisha's movements are very sharp and clean. I love the way she was able to match the music so well in her dance, considering this is a pretty hard song to dance to!

8. Mai Murkami

Not only is Mai extremely talented, but she is so fricken cute! She dose a great job of really selling this routine to the crowd and it's impossible for me to watch this routine without smiling!

9. Cheng Fei

This routine is so dramatic! The Chinese couldn't have chosen a better piece for Cheng to use in the Olympics because the music really draws in the crowd. It's a pretty intense song and it really builds up to that Olympic moment!

10. Aliya Mustafina

This was my favorite floor routine from the 2010 World Championships! I like this one a little more than Aliya's new choreography (although it's starting to grow on me!) The music and emotion Aliya shows throughout the whole routine is just beautiful!

  1. Canada represent! I do think Jordyn's routine is nice, and it is performed very well; she has a different kind of grace. Ksenia's is probably my favourite of all time, even though I liked her 2010 music more. I love Victoria Moors- I love how both she and Viktoria Komova imitate guns; so dramatic! Great choices :)

  2. What? You put Mys' routine as one of the worst and Wieber's as one of the best? Are you out of your mind? Wieber's routine is pretty much AWFUL!

    1. Well like we said, this is just our opinions. Its fine if you don't agree. Many people actually like Wieber's routine. (This one is her best so far) It actually won best choreography of the year over Ksenia Afan, Sui Lu, Sabrina Vega, etc in Inside Gymnastics Magazine. Her music is great for her, and allows her to do a lot of posing (something she mostly did in the past)My's routine is pretty crazy. Wieber's isn't.
